BANGKOK: Thailand has marked two contracts, worth 5.2 billion baht (US$157 million), with Chinese state ventures for a fast rail venture with China, Anon Luengboriboon, acting legislative head of the State Railway of Thailand, told Reuters on Wednesday.
The main contract covers the definite building outline of the task worth 1.7 billon baht, while the second includes the employing of Chinese specialized counselors, worth 3.5 billion baht.
The Thai government and Chinese state ventures marked the agreements this week, saw by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on the sideline of a BRICS summit in China.
Development of the main period of the undertaking, a 250km rail line that will connect the Thai capital, Bangkok, and the northeastern area of Nakhon Ratchasima, will start in October. It is required to be operational in 2021, as per Anon.
"The Department of Highways will assemble the initial 3.5km of the rail line while the rest will be interested out in the open offering for Thai contractual workers, Anon told Reuters.
"The marking of these two contracts has authoritatively commenced the Thai-Chinese rapid rail venture."
